El Sereno real estate sits on top of the Monterey Hills, separating the Los Angeles Basin from the San Gabriel Valley. The community, is bordered by South Pasadena to the north, Alhambra to the east, University to the south east, City Terrace to the south and Boyle Heights to the southwest, Lincoln Heights on the west and Montecito Heights on the northwest. El Sereno property comprised a working-class suburb when it was founded in 1905 and it remains one today. El Sereno remains a largely Latino community with two of three residents speaking Spanish at home.

El Sereno is the easternmost district in the city of Los Angeles, California. A picturesque community nestled in the Monterey Hills between the Los Angeles Basin and the San Gabriel Valley, El Sereno maintains its own unique identity. Feature films and music videos have been filmed in El Sereno. El Sereno Beginnings

Founded as Bairdstown in 1905, the area became known as El Sereno in 1915. El Sereno was founded as an ethnically diverse working-class suburb of Los Angeles and was later incorporated as a district there. 

El Sereno Schools

Children living in El Sereno attend schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District, including Cesar Chavez Elementary School, which opened in 2006. Also nearby are LA County High School for the Arts and California State University Los Angeles.

El Sereno Attractions

Residents of and visitors to El Sereno enjoy several festivals throughout the year, including the Kite Festival, Food Truck Festival, and the El Sereno Independence Day Parade. El Sereno also has a farmers market on Friday evenings and sponsors fundraisers and concerts benefiting local schools, clubs, and organizations. A fixture in the community is the El Sereno Recreation Center which features an auditorium, barbecue pits, baseball diamond, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, children’s play area, community room, indoor and outdoor gyms, picnic tables, and tennis courts.

Another favorite among families and individuals is Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, featuring 100 picnic tables, 20 barbeque pits, and the Audubon Center. Opened in 2003 and operated by Audubon California, the Audubon Center provides environmental and conservation education and offers classes and demonstrations to “inspire all to experience, understand and care for the local natural world.
